What's your "go-to" movie? The one you watch when you need to just get away from it all?
Submitted by uncagedbird.
Fight Club.
How are you spending this Memorial Day? How will it differ from Memorial Days past?
On Memorial Monday, I went to Canada with Tim and his friends. The friends went to see this suspension bridge, we decided $30 was too much to spend to walk around for a couple of hours, so we walked around the neighborhood for free. Then we walked around Vancouver's Chinatown. It didn't even feel like Chinatown because it was so clean.
What did you do for fun when you were a kid? How is it different from what you see kids doing now?
Submitted by jaklumen.
I played outside everyday and got dirty. TV's only something I watched if I couldn't play outside because it's dark/raining. There wasn't much in the way of children's television programming other than a couple of hours of cartoons everyday. I also read a lot.
Kids today don't really seem to play outside and get dirty. Nor do they seem to read anything that's not Harry Potter or school related.
What's your favorite type of cheese? Or, if you don't like cheese, why not?
Submitted by Draegon Scribe.
Hard cheese: Gouda aged 5 years. It is mellow, flavorful, and completely transformed.
Soft cheese: Montbriac. Soft ripened blue cheese, on the opposite end of the spectrum from the gouda, but still so well rounded in the creaminess from all the fat and sharpness from the blue vein.
What do you do EVERY day to take care of the earth's environment? What could you do more of?
1.I keep my freezer and fridge pretty full. Refrigerators and freezers work much more efficiently when there's more stuff in it.
2. I drive a hybrid car.
3. I go grocery shopping with reusable cotton bags when I can.
4. I try to recycle; there's no recycling where I live, so I have to take my recyclables to a recycling center. Do you have any idea how hard it is to recycle in San Diego when you live in an apartment complex that doesn't support recycling? The parks dept says that there are blue recycling dumpsters everywhere, I drove to 4 different locations and there were none. Another reason why San Diego sucks.
5. I carry water in a Nalgene type bottle. No more bottled water for me if I can help it.
6. All but one of my lightbulbs is a CFL. The one with the dimmer is a conventional bulb. CFL bulbs do this awful flickering thing when combined with a dimmer.
7. I reuse as much as I can, including ziplock bags, plastic take out containers, and utensils.
If you're getting one, how are you planning on spending your tax refund?
I saved it in case I have to pay for my move to Seattle. What ended up happening is that I ended up spending it on my cat's last day. That VCA in Mission Valley is extremely expensive.
What's holding you back from your dream job?
Submitted by Question of the Day.
This was my dream job for a long time, then they moved me to a new group under a sucky supervisor. I had no idea how much my previous supervisors allowed me to cultivated my skills while staying sheltered under their wings, I was shielded from the inefficiency and bureaucracy that runs rampant in big corporations and lack of professionalism in a small company. I started eating lunch with a bunch of coworkers who have been at the company for a long time, and they've observed some disturbing trends: Screw up big time, get promoted; work hard and smart, passed over for promotion. 8 people have left in the last month, and there will be plenty more. I can't wait to get out of here.
What happened the first time you were left home alone as a child?
Submitted by Warhead.
I watched TV all day (weather was bad out) and ate crushed dry ramen noodles (dry ramen noodles in Asia are much tastier than the ones you find here). It was the best!
What is your "role" in your family?
I'm the smart, successful, independent one who's everybody's favorite and everyone wants to take credit for raising. I'm the lucky one who doesn't listen to advice from elders, but ends up coming out not only unscathed, but much better off than anyone would ever imagine.
Except it's not luck, it's all hard work and resourcefulness.
How are your Saturday nights different now than they were five years ago?
I'm not drinking as much as I used to. 5 years ago, I was probably going out and getting completely trashed every single saturday night in PB or downtown.
