I haven't been excited about music for a while. Then I heard this song on KEXP, yes, that's David Byrne singing. And yes, that's the artwork of Shepard Fairey (of the Obey Giant and Obama poster fame).

I heart this so much:
Music-wise, what was the first 45, single or download you bought?
Submitted by Paddy Melt Wagon.
I don't remember exactly. I think my first Cassingle was BoyzIIMen, Motown Philly.
Wow, so freaking awesome.
It was in the Delta Room at HOB, which is the carpeted lounge area off to the side of the main music stage. It was almost like being at a house party with 150 people in attendance. Beer was on special for $3. My friend Rudy opened for DJ Krush, then DJ Krush rocked the house for almost 2 hours. Great music. Fun times, saw Zare and met her friend Brendan, ran into a lot of people I know. It was hands down one of the best live shows I've ever seen.
What's the best music documentary or concert film you've seen?
I really love "Spellbound", it's a movie about the national spelling bee. The little Mexican girl winning her regionals made me cry, and I never cry at movies. What I also love about the movie is that you get to see how the kids deal with pressure from their families and themselves to win, with all sorts obstacles in their way. And most of all, this movie isn't preachy and there isn't a take-home message. You just get captivated and excited for the kids.
Radiohead release their seventh studio album today and it's only available online and you set your own price. Will you buy the album? Do you buy the idea?
I will most likely buy the album. Since once people buy it on CDs, they'll just rip it and put it on the internet for everyone else to download for free, then the CD just sits there unless it's anything like Kid A with the extra booklet. People who just like the music but are not diehard fans will just download the stuff for free. True Radiohead fans will actually pay money to listen to the album in its entirety or buy the box set.
While at karaoke a couple of weeks back, I noticed that there are a lot of songs named "Crazy:
Crazy - Patsy Cline. "I'm crazy."
Crazy - Seal. "We are a little crazy."
Crazy - Britney Spears. "You drive me crazy."
Crazy - Gnarls Barkley. "I think you're crazy."
They're all really good songs. What are some other good "Crazy" songs?
I was driving home just now and thought, "hey, I'd like to listen to some classical music or jazz for a change". Going through the radio dial, there was nothing but Smooth Jazz. I hate smooth jazz, was jazz ever meant to be smooth? I thought jazz was meant to evoke emotions and feelings, not work as an auditory prozac. I like my jazz rough, chaotic, unsettling, chunky, crunchy. Whoever invented Smooth Jazz should be tortured and killed.
P.S. When I was in high school, I traded my dad's Kenny G CD for Please Hammer Don't Hurt Them. I'm not proud, but this just goes to show you how far back my hatred for smooth jazz goes.
What happens if you take one of the world's most famous violinists, playing some of the best songs composed for violin on a Stradvarius in a metro station in Washington D.C. as a street musician? Will people notice?
